UniSource Energy Services employees joined forces with the American Red Cross to share critical heat safety resources and information with residents in Lake Havasu City and Kingman.

As communities in Arizona face extreme heat, UniSource employees, Red Cross and volunteers visited neighborhoods in  mid-June to conduct check-ins while distributing life-saving information on how to stay safe during extreme heat events.

UniSource Service Technicians and other employees shared information about energy usage and reliability. Last July, Lake Havasu City faced record-breaking heat and high temperatures are expected again this year.

Teams were assigned to households, where they conducted check-ins, left materials and reminded residents to check on neighbors and loved ones. In all, they reached 173 homes, making 187 residents safer.

“UniSource employees are your neighbors. We know the importance of increasing the awareness of heat impacts, making social connections, and supporting public health as we gear up for another long, hot summer,” said Lynne Petersen, Senior Director of Customer Experience. “We also work hard to strengthen our local energy grid because we know how essential reliable service is during the increasingly extreme heat events that happen each year. It’s all crucial activity for our vulnerable populations who are more susceptible to heat-related impacts.”

The Mohave County canvassing effort advanced collective work to support areas in need, advocates said.

“A joint response to heat emergencies is critical to keeping our communities safe and building resilience,” said Henning Larsen, Executive Director of the American Red Cross of Northern Arizona.
