Tucson, Ariz. – UniSource Energy Services is donating $50,000 to the Northern Arizona Chapter of the American Red Cross to provide relief to residents in the wake of flooding across the region.

The donation will help the agency provide shelter and other resources for residents who were forced to evacuate their homes or are waiting for services to be restored. All funds come from corporate resources and will not be recovered through customers’ rates.

“Disasters like the severe flooding across Northern Arizona remind us that no organization can meet the needs of affected communities alone. We are deeply grateful for Unisource’s generous $50,000 donation, which will support the American Red Cross and the network of partners who provide shelter, meals, relief supplies, and recovery support to families facing tremendous loss. Strong partnerships with community-minded organizations are essential to ensuring we can respond quickly and effectively when disasters strike, bringing hope and help to those who need it most,” said Henning Bry Larsen, executive director of the Northern Arizona Chapter of the American Red Cross.

Flood damage at Porter Creek in Pinetop has interrupted natural gas service to 56 customers in the area. UniSource crews have restored service to most of them while ensuring the protection of public safety, our first, highest, and most urgent priority. Crews have secured the area with support from Navajo County Emergency Management and Navajo County Public Works.

Some natural gas customers in other areas also were affected by flood damage from recent storms. Although UniSource field crews have safely restored service in those areas, customers who see or smell signs of a possible gas leak are urged to call us 877-837-4968.

UniSource provides natural gas service to 171,000 customers in Northern and Southern Arizona. We also provide electric service to 106,000 customers in Mohave and Santa Cruz counties.
