Tucson, Ariz. – UniSource Energy Services will donate $15,000 to fight hunger as children and families face growing food insecurity.
UniSource will donate the funding to St. Mary’s Food Bank of Arizona, which partners with more than 600 nonprofit organizations to distribute food throughout the state. Food assistance agencies in Arizona are anticipating a significant increase in requests this month.
“We’re donating these funds to address an urgent, critical need for members of our communities who rely on local meal programs, churches, schools and other agencies for nourishment,” said Susan Gray, UniSource President and CEO. “Our local food banks and distribution programs are seeing greater need right now, so we’re stepping in to help.”
Like all of UniSource’s philanthropic contributions, donations will come from corporate resources and will not be recovered through customers’ rates. Throughout the year, UniSource supports numerous fundraising events and food drives to help feed hungry individuals and families in communities it serves.
“We thank UniSource for this generous donation. It comes at a great time and will help us meet the increasing need that is now rising above 50,000 visits across our agency network each week,” St. Mary’s President and CEO Milt Liu said. “This will allow us to distribute an additional 75,000 meals to our neighbors in need, some of whom are visiting a food bank for the very first time.”
In 2024 alone, UniSource contributed more than $362,000 and thousands of volunteer hours to help nearly 100 local nonprofit groups support community vitality, education, environmental stewardship and social equity.
UniSource also stands ready to support customers who are facing financial hardships. We offer extended payment arrangements, payment extensions and other assistance to help customers who have fallen behind on their electric bills.
