UniSource is helping customers move toward more affordable energy bills by curating ready-made kits and video instructions to improve energy efficiency at home.

UniSource is distributing free kits at select events and workshops alongside community partners. Such distributions are focused on assisting low-income customers.

Do-it-yourself videos were produced to help customers install such items, whether they purchase themselves on their own or receive free kits.

Items in Kits

The “weatherization” kits include six easy-to-install items that are useful for all types of households – big, small, rentals, or owned. Such items can help homes withstand the impacts of different types of weather, decrease energy use and therefore, reduce bills:

  • Window insulating with window film
  • Closed-cell foam tape
  • Switch/outlet gaskets
  • Rope caulk
  • Self-stick door sweep
  • V-type, adhesive-backed backed weatherstripping

Kits for Low-income Customers

The idea for the kits came from a team of UniSource employees who are exploring opportunities to make bills more affordable for customers. The designated team collaborates with community partners to find ways to extend our assistance to customers in challenging times.

With many customers struggling with bills, the kits are meant to empower customers to take immediate steps to lower their costs. UniSource is working with local agency partners to expand our outreach through collaborative partnerships.

“We understand the challenges many of our limited-income customers face, and we’re committed to helping,” said Nikole White, Senior Program Manager for Energy Services. “Our team is actively identifying resources that promote comfort, safety, and energy efficiency – making it easier to manage energy bills and maintain a secure home environment. Our customers’ wellbeing is our priority.”

UniSource has been distributing the kits at community events with partners, including food banks, educational organizations, and at the Nogales Bicycle Classic.

DIY with Videos

UniSource has video instructions for installation of the items, both for those who receive the kits for free and those who buy the products on their own.

The UniSource produced videos give step-by-step instructions on videos in a playlist. Watch UniSource’s DIY Energy Savings Toolkit videos.
