UniSource is helping to satisfy steady housing demand in Northern Arizona communities, fueling positive economic impacts.

Our company and contract crews are responding to increased requests for new natural gas service connections, especially in Prescott, Prescott Valley and Flagstaff. We’re on track to install more meters than last year, extending an upward trend since 2020. Last year, 1,333 meters were set. This year, more than 800 were placed by midyear.

Demand for homes has been on the rise since the pandemic, as homebuyers sought refuge from larger cities and relocated to cooler climates. UniSource also is partnering with developers who are expressing interest in extending gas service into new areas for future growth.

The interest is especially visible in the hilly terrain of the Prescott region where housing developments are proliferating. Last year, 378 meters were set for new service, while another 280 have been set so far this year.

“The Prescott Quad-City is a popular area for new residents and we’re working hard to accommodate the needs of our customers and developers,” said Teresa Inman, District Manager in the Prescott office.

In Yavapai County, UniSource is extending mainlines to accommodate natural gas service to 19 new developments.

Developers in the Flagstaff area also are responding to the needs of new residents drawn by Northern Arizona University and the refreshing weather. Last year, 333 meters were set and another 192 were placed by mid-2025.

Capstone Homes is building new homes in and around Flagstaff, some nestled in the pines.

Richard Perez, District Manager in Flagstaff, said UniSource is anticipating additional homes and businesses in the next five years in the area of JW Powell Boulevard southeast of the city. Previously, Flagstaff crews extended service to the east and west of the city.

With new residents, Flagstaff crews are also planning gas service for new and rebuilt schools.

UniSource also serves other communities that have seen new home construction in recent years, including Show Low and Pinetop-Lakeside where infill developments have been prominent.
