We helped customers weather the summer months and prepare for the school year by making contributions in our communities. Here are some of the ways we helped.
Relieving Heat in Lake Havasu City
A new Lake Havasu City cooling center is now even more comfortable and energy-efficient thanks to a powerful AirEYE motion-sensor fan donated by UniSource.
We partnered with River Cities United Way to launch the new Heat Relief Station at The Salvation Army. The facility offers relief to the public in extreme heat and provides cooling towels and heat relief kits.
“The extreme heat in Lake Havasu City can be dangerous, and it’s our collective responsibility to ensure our community members have access to resources that keep them safe,” said Ashley Wood, CEO of River Cities United Way. “This Heat Relief Station, made possible through our partnership with UniSource and the support of The Salvation Army, exemplifies how we can ‘Live United’ to address critical local needs. We encourage everyone who needs a break from the heat to utilize this station.”
The fan was placed in an area where unhoused people often congregate, allowing them to get cooler. With the motion sensor, the fan will automatically turn off if no one is at the cooling center.
“UniSource is deeply committed to the wellbeing of the communities we serve. We understand the challenges that extreme temperatures present, and we are proud to partner with River Cities United Way and The Salvation Army to provide tangible relief,” said Penny Lyons, UniSource Community Customer Affairs Representative. “This Heat Relief Station is a direct reflection of our dedication to supporting public health and safety in Lake Havasu City.”
Getting Ready for Back to School
Volunteers prepared students to go back to class through service initiatives this summer.
At UniSource’s Cottonwood office, employees gathered backpacks for the upcoming school year. The nonprofit group, Old Town Mission, handed out backpacks to students from kindergarten to high school.
In all, the group collected 53 backpacks filled with school supplies.
In Lake Havasu City, volunteers helped local students get ready for school by supporting the Back to School Care Fair at the Clothes Closet.
Employees set up the July 12 event, handed out shoes, and distributed water bottles to help attendees stayed hydrated.
Such efforts align with our company’s philanthropic focus on expanding educational opportunities.
Giving Blood
Our Prescott employees supported their community’s health through a blood drive hosted at our local office.
With an initial goal of 25 donors, 35 employees stepped up and gave blood, resulting in 105 potential lives saved.
The office also almost doubled its goal of 23 units of blood collected, with a whopping 41 units collected for Vitalant Blood Center.
Lifting Spirits
Our employees decorated floats and marched in parades that spread cheer in July.
Flagstaff employees decorated a float of a UniSource vehicle for the Fourth of July Parade through downtown, while walkers handed out goodies as they went along.
In Prescott, UniSource participated in the Rodeo Parade on July 5, a highlight for Prescott Frontier Days and the World’s Oldest Rodeo festivities.
