Opening blinds business

Small General Service (SGS)

Time-of-Use

Our Small General Service Time-of-Use pricing plan offers an opportunity to reduce your monthly bill by shifting the majority of your business' electricity usage to off-peak hours.

How does SGS Time-of-Use work?

Our SGS Time-of-Use plan includes higher “on-peak” rates during periods when UES customers typically use the most power and lower “off-peak” rates the rest of the day. In this way, the plan rewards customers who shift their usage away from peak usage periods.

What are the potential advantages of this plan?

Customers on this plan have more control over their energy costs by choosing when they use electricity. Use most of your electricity during off-peak time periods and you could significantly lower your business' monthly bill.

SGS Time-of-Use is designed to reward customers who do their part to reduce demand on the electric grid, particularly during peak usage periods. Reducing the peak energy demand promotes more efficient use of our energy resources and can help limit future rate increases.

What are the potential disadvantages of this plan?

If your business uses a lot of power during on-peak hours, your energy costs could increase under our SGS Time-of-Use plan. Changes in energy habits at your business may be necessary to achieve bill savings. The more you can shift your usage away from peak hours, the more you can save. Your savings will vary based on your business' usage patterns.

Customers who leave this plan cannot return to SGS Time-of-Use for at least 12 months.

How can I shift my business' electric usage to off-peak time periods?

  • Operate large appliances and equipment such as air conditioning, lighting, copiers and printers during off-peak hours.
  • Adjust the thermostat to reduce heating and cooling during on-peak hours and when you are not at your business.
  • Install timers on electric water heaters and recirculation pumps so they operate mainly during off-peak hours.
  • Turn off all but essential lights during on-peak hours.
  • Perform electricity-consuming tasks during the off-peak hours.
