Medical Discounts

Beginning October 1, 2010, CARES customers pay a discounted customer charge of $3.50 per month which is $4.50 less than our standard residential charge. They also receive discounts on their UES electric service. The total discount is applied to the entire bill. The amount of the monthly discount is calculated based on monthly usage, with larger percentage discounts available to customers who use less energy.

The CARES Medical Life Support Program makes similar discounts available at higher usage levels for qualified low-income customers who require the use of life support equipment in their homes. The total discount is applied to the entire bill. The amount is calculated based on monthly usage, with larger percentage discounts available to customers who use less energy (see chart below).

Medical Life-Support Eligibility

To be eligible for the CARES Low Income Life-Support Program, an electric service customer must submit to UES annual verification by the physician to remain eligible for the program beyond one year. You can find the physician's form on the second page of the application below.
