Transimission Line Projects
Increased electrical system reliability
In January 2013, UniSource Energy Services (UES) initiated construction of a 138-kilovolt (kV) transmission line that will replace an existing 115 kV line. The new line will help meet growing electric needs in Santa Cruz County.
A request to modify the project's Certificate of Environmental Compatability could be considered by the Arizona Corporation Commission during an open meeting as soon as August 13, 2013.
The Vail to Valencia 138 kV Transmission Line will establish a 138 kV link between Tucson Electric Power's Vail Substation and UES' Valencia Substation in Nogales. A map of the final approved route, which has been approved by the Arizona Corporation Commission (ACC), is available from the link below.
Although much of the new line will follow the route of the 115 kV line it is replacing, portions of the project will follow a new alignment. New steel monopoles will be installed in these sections at locations determined by the project's final design in consultation with property owners.
Project surveyors will seek to establish the boundaries of 100-foot-wide easements that will be required to build and maintain the transmission line. UES will work with property owners to establish the necessary easements before beginning construction of the line, which is scheduled to be complete by the end of 2014.
