Sedona Mountains

For Immediate Release: May 11, 2018

Tucson, Ariz. – UniSource Energy Services (UES) will begin work this month on a 1-mile system improvement project in Sedona that will more than double the capacity of a line delivering natural gas to local customers.

Construction will take place along Dry Creek Road beginning at Kachina Drive and proceeding north to Chimney Rock Lane. The project will provide additional capacity for residents in west Sedona, the Thunder Mountain area, North Slopes subdivision, the Enchantment Resort and Long Canyon development.

“We’re installing new pipeline capacity to help meet the growth needs of Sedona,” said Hector Riojas, Verde Valley District Manager for UES. “This project will help strengthen the system that delivers safe, reliable natural gas service to local residents.”

Traffic will be restricted to one lane in active work zones. Workers will use additional traffic control measures during construction, which will continue through summer. Drivers should expect delays and may want to consider alternate routes, including Thunder Mountain Road, Andante Drive and State Highway 89A, or Boyton Pass, Forest Service Road 152C, Forest Service Road 525 and 89A.

“We appreciate the patience of drivers who might be affected and we’ll work as quickly and as safely as possible to complete construction,” Riojas said.

Customers with questions about the project can call UES’ gas construction line at 928-203-1295.

Over the last five years, UES has invested more than $84 million to upgrade infrastructure and make other improvements. UES plans to invest more than $20 million this year alone in natural gas facilities and other resources.

UES provides natural gas to approximately 156,000 customers in northern and southern Arizona. The company also provides electric service to approximately 96,000 customers in Mohave and Santa Cruz counties. For more information, visit uesaz.com.

UES and its parent company, UNS Energy, are subsidiaries of Fortis, Inc., which owns utilities that serve more than 3 million customers across Canada and in the United States and the Caribbean. To learn more, visit fortisinc.com.
