UES Reminds Property Owners to Call 811 or Arizona Blue Stake Before Digging
Kingman, Ariz. â€" As the weather warms, UniSource Energy Services is offering customers an important reminder: Before picking up a shovel, pick up the phone and call 811 or Arizona Blue Stake.
Planting trees, tilling soil for a new garden or excavating a site for a new patio are great activities for the month of April. That's why UES and other utilities across the country are recognizing April as "National Safe Digging Month" to call attention to the danger posed by unmarked underground service lines.
Don't break ground on a project of any size until you see the distinctive lines marking the location of underground facilities at your home, business or other work site. For any project that requires excavation, call 811 or Arizona Blue Stake at 1-800-STAKE-IT (1-800-782-5348) at least two business days before you dig so that underground facilities can be marked. UES and other utilities will locate their service lines at no charge.
Calling before you dig is required by law. Failure to mark underground utilities can result in costly repairs, disruptions in utility service, fire and serious injury. If a gas line is damaged by digging or other activity, call UES to report the incident or call 911 immediately if there is an immediate threat of fire or injury.
UniSource Energy Services, a subsidiary of UniSource Energy Corporation (NYSE: UNS), provides natural gas and electric service to about 236,000 customers across Arizona. For more important gas safety tips, visit uesaz.com.
