Businesses that use natural gas can take advantage of higher rebates on select energy-efficiency upgrades now through Aug. 30, 2019 during UniSource Energy Services’ summer promotion.

UniSource’s Commercial Energy Solutions Program for gas customers is offering increased rebates on the purchase and installation of high-efficiency gas furnaces, boilers, water heaters and gas griddles. Customers can earn rebates for each eligible upgrade.

“We’re pleased to offer increased incentives to our commercial and industrial gas customers that will help them improve efficiency and reduce their operating costs,” said Jessica Vega, Senior Program Manager of Commercial Energy Efficiency Programs and Services.

Not only can businesses realize long-term savings on their gas bills, but they can reduce their up-front costs for furnaces with high Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency (AFUE) ratings or other improvements.

“For example, a 95% AFUE gas furnace can cost about $1,800. UniSource’s rebate would cover almost 30 percent of the investment cost,” Vega said.

Increased rebates are being offered on the following products:

  • 93-95.5% AFUE gas furnaces. Depending on the AFUE rating of the furnace, rebates range from $420 to $510. The AFUE indicates the output of BTUs of useful heat for every 100 BTUs of natural gas used. A higher AFUE means higher efficiency.
  • High efficiency boilers. Customers can earn rebates of $500 for each 100 kbtuh. For example, a 300 kbtuh boiler would receive a $1,500 rebate.
  • Water heaters. An $850 rebate is offered on storage water heaters rated 75 kbtuh or greater.
  • Gas griddles. A $360 rebate is given on high efficiency gas griddles.

New applications submitted between May 27 and Aug. 30 are eligible for the higher rebates on these select measures. Applications submitted prior to May 27 will be eligible to receive the standard rebates.

“Selecting a trusted UniSource-approved contractor to perform your upgrades is an important first step,” said Vega. “Let them know that you’d like to take advantage of these rebates early in the process.”

The rebates are available on a first-come, first-served basis subject to the availability of funding.
