Our customers now have more choices than ever before to help them reduce their monthly electric bills - and their impact on the environment.
Last year, TEP rolled out several new conservation programs that make financial incentives available to participating customers.
Energy Star Lighting
Saving energy is now as easy as replacing a light bulb. Both residential and commercial customers can take advantage of the ENERGY STAR Lighting program, which makes energy-efficient compact fluorescent lights (CFLs) available at a discount of up to 50 percent at participating stores.
More than 395,000 CFLs were sold in the last six months of 2008, exceeding our expectations for launch of the program.
Energy Smart Homes
Our Energy Smart Homes program helps builders construct energy-efficient homes. Thanks to our quality control measures, homes that carry the Energy Smart Homes label will requires less energy to operate, resulting in lower costs for consumers. Standards are enforced using on-site inspections to confirm proper installation and energy-efficient performance.
The program provides workshops and on-site, hands-on training to help contractors learn proper duct installation and sealing techniques, proper window installation and other energy-efficient building techniques.
UES is working with builders to make Energy Smart Homes available throughout UES’ statewide service territory.
Energy Advisor
UES provides this powerful online tool to help customers manage energy use and control energy costs. If you take just a few minutes to type in specific details about your home or office, the Energy Advisor can offer you customized advice about how much money you could save by making certain improvements, like upgrading windows or installing a more efficient air conditioning unit. More than 140 energy saving strategies can be personalized for weather and utility rates. You can use the Energy Advisor to analyze an entire home or business or to calculate the energy cost of a major appliance or a specific piece of equipment. In 2008 alone, more than 740 residential customers and 17 commercial customers completed an online energy audit.
Rebates for Efficient Home Heating, Home Cooling & More
UES' gas customers can receive rebates for installation of energy-efficient home heating equipment UES also will provide training to help HVAC contractors improve the efficiency of their installations. UES expects the program will assist more than 500 homeowners each year while avoiding more than 20 million pounds of carbon emissions each year from inefficient furnaces.
Electric customers can receive rebates for installation of energy-efficient home cooling equipment.

Shade Tree Program
UES is working with local retailers to provide desert trees to residential neighborhoods, community organizations and schools. The program is designed to promote energy conservation and environmental benefits associated with planting low-water usage trees and other vegetation.
Solutions for Commercial & Industrial Customers
TEP's Commercial Energy Solutions offer incentives to commercial and industrial customers for the installation of energy-efficient equipment. Incentives are available to many kinds of businesses, including:
- Large Businesses: UES offers cash rebates to customers who install energy-efficient lighting equipment and controls, air conditioning and heat pump equipment, motors and motor drives, compressed air and refrigeration.
- Small Businesses: Incentives are available for the installation of high-efficiency lighting, heating and refrigeration equipment.
- New Construction: Rebates are available to help commercial building owners and developers incorporate energy efficiency in designs for new construction and major renovations.
