Customer Assistance Residential Energy Support Program - CARES
CARES Discount
Are you finding yourself struggling to make ends meet? UES's CARES Discount Program provides qualifying customers up to 30 percent off their residential energy costs each month.
To be eligible for this discount, you must:
- Have the UES account in your name
- Be a UES residential customer
- Have a combined household income at or below 150% of the federal poverty level (see chart below).
Gas Discounts
The first 100 therms or less per month will be discounted November through April by 15 cents per therm, for a total discount of up to $15 per month.
Electric Discounts
CARES customers receive discounts on their UES electric service. The total discount is applied to the entire bill. The amount of the monthly discount is calculated based on monthly usage, with larger percentage discounts available to customers who use less energy (see chart below).

The CARES Medical Life Support Program makes similar discounts available at higher usage levels for qualified low-income customers who require the use of life support equipment in their homes. The total discount is applied to the entire bill. The amount is calculated based on monthly usage, with larger percentage discounts available to customers who use less energy (see chart below).

Medical Life-Support Eligibility
To be eligible for the CARES Low Income Life-support Program, an electric service customer must submit to UES annual verification by the physician to remain eligible for the program beyond one year. Please take a copy of the Physician Certification form to your physician for completion.
